Why "Shanhuang" (Mountain Emperor)

The King of DayulingDayuling is already Taiwan's most elite tea region. Shanhuang goes further — a competition-grade selection from that peak, keeping only the finest essence. Among all Dayuling teas, Shanhuang is No.1.
Tempered by Frost and Extreme ColdAt 2,300 meters, tea trees endure year-round frost and bitter cold. The harsh environment forces stronger survival mechanisms — thicker leaves, denser pectin, more intense mountain qi. This adversity-born quality cannot be replicated by technique alone.
Nearly 30% Lost to RefinementCoarse stems and old leaves are removed by hand, one by one. The finished product is only about 70% of the raw material. That 30% "loss" delivers zero off-flavors, extreme viscosity, and a tea that holds strong through 9 steeps.

Emperor Among Mountains

Forged by Frost and Rain
Shaped by high-altitude frost and freezing rain, the Shanhuang develops an extraordinary character. Its resilience against the cold transforms into a powerful alpine green aroma and deep, lasting sweetness — earning its title as "Emperor Among Mountains." A rare treasure worthy of the most discerning connoisseur.

Competition-Grade Refinement

Fragrant Through 9 Steeps
From the careful hand-picking to the master's meticulous processing, every step demands the utmost precision. Through rigorous competition-grade selection, stems and coarse leaves are removed, leaving only the finest essence. Remarkably durable, it can be steeped up to 9 times — each infusion releasing captivating stone-fruit and floral notes.

Refined tea leaves comparison

Competition Standard · Pure Essence

Why do the leaves look smaller than usual?

What you receive is not broken tea — it is a premium refined product. Following competition-tea standards, we hand-remove coarse stems, old leaves, and imperfect pieces, keeping only the most tender, intact leaf flesh.

Refined vs. Standard Tea
  • Appearance: One-leaf-one-bud form; looks smaller because connecting stems are removed — this is pure essence.
  • Taste: Without coarse stems, the liquor is cleaner, silkier, and more refined.
  • Durability: Leaf-flesh essence releases more evenly, maintaining flavor across many steeps.

This is the commitment behind a premium tea — only the purest character in every cup.

Dayuling's Highest Grade

Competition-grade refinement takes time — only small batches each season

Dayuling's output is already scarce; after Shanhuang's competition-grade refinement, quantities are even more limited.
Loyal customers reserve every season — public availability is extremely rare. If you see it in stock, don't hesitate.
